The Riu Atoll is built on the private island of Maafushi in the Maldives and has a pool with a swim-up bar and three restaurants.

Location’s key when it comes to this place. It’s got lots of sugar-cube-shaped suites, all of which are all on stilts over the shallow lagoon. The powdery beach is literally right on your doorstep.

There’s a big pool with a swim-up bar, as well as a children’s pool. Little ones will have a whale of a time here – there’s a hotel-run kids’ club and a top-notch entertainment offering in the evenings.

To get to the Riu Atoll, you’ll take a scenic domestic flight followed by a 15-20 minute speedboat transfer. It’s worth thinking about your luggage, too, as the hold allowance for domestic flights is 22kg, and 5kg for hand luggage. You’ll be charged extra at the airport if you go over the limit.
